Extra-time goals from Melchie Dumornay, Damaris Egurrola and Tabitha Chawinga sent Lyon into the Women's Champions League semi-finals after they beat Wolfsburg 4-0 in Thursday's second leg.

Having trailed by one goal from the first leg, Lily Yohannes levelled the tie in the 16th minute before the eight-time champions got over the line to clinch a 4-1 win on aggregate. 

Lyon's dominant start was rewarded early on when Yohannes shifted the ball onto her right foot before seeing her shot deflect off Janina Minge and wrong-foot Stina Johannes. 

Yohannes came close to turning the tie on its head in the 20th minute, but her volley was repelled at point-blank range by Johannes as the tie entered half-time finely poised. 

The French giants continued to push after the break and only the fingertips of Johannes denied Selma Bacha's fierce attempt, though Lyon goalkeeper Christiane Endler had to be on her toes at the other end to repel Janou Levels' close-range shot. 

Bacha then forced a stunning save from Johannes with a free-kick as extra-time was needed, and Lyon almost took the lead in the tie through Vicki Becho, but she somehow turned Chawinga's teasing cross to the back post over the crossbar. 

The ball was in the back of the net two minutes later, though, as Becho's deflected delivery was turned home by Marie-Antoinette Katoto, but after a lengthy VAR check, the goal was ruled out for an offside in the build-up against Lyon's number seven. 

However, it mattered little as Lyon led the tie when Dumornay bundled the ball into the net from a corner, with the goal eventually given after another VAR review for a potential handball by the defender. 

Egurrola then did brilliantly to steer Bacha's set-piece beyond the dive of Johannes and into the left corner five minutes later, with the win sealed in the 119th minute by Chawinga, who rounded Johannes to score.

This was just the third time that Lyon had trailed in a Champions League tie after the first leg, but they showcased why they are among the favourites for a record-extending ninth title, with defending champions Arsenal up next in the semi-finals. 

And their victory was helped by their plethora of attacking talent in reserve. Dumornay, Egurrola, Katoto and Chawinga were all involved in a goal, with the latter standing out. 

Despite only being introduced in the 69th minute, Chawinga finished with team-high totals for touches in the opposition box (14), while only full-back Bacha (eight) created more chances than the 29-year-old's four. 

But Lyon were worthy of their win, having registered an expected goals (xG) total of 4.08 from their 37 shots, 14 of which were on target, compared to Wolfsburg's 0.65 from their six attempts.
